Workshops for young and old

Ruhrtriennale offers a range of different workshops as part of an expanded understanding of outreach work. With regards to barrier sensitivity, the festival is not only concerned with providing access to various events for people with disabilities. Sensitising the audience through workshops is equally important. We have invited specialised lecturers who provide insights into different (body) languages and the experience of reality from a different perspective, as “practical exercises in democracy”.

Barrier sensitivity: Dealing with the blind and visually impaired
Introduction to traditional Roma dance

Workshop leader: Elena Preduca 
Elena Preduca comes from Bulgaria and founded a dance group for Roma:nja children and young people in Dortmund at the end of 2016. As part of Romano Than e.V., the group meets twice a week under her leadership to maintain and develop the cultural heritage of traditional Roma dance. Elena introduces the participants of the workshop to the basics of Roma dance. The audience can experience its rehearsed form with the group of young dancers in Unlocking Paradise, the theatre piece with communities from the Ruhr region, on 7th and 8th September at PACT Zollverein.

Kreative Gesprächsformate mit Triennale Teens Talk
Die Jugendlichen des diesjährigen Projekts Triennale Teens Talk entwickeln in den Festivalwochen verschiedene kreative und interaktive Gesprächsformate und testen diese im Austausch mit dem Publikum auf Herz und Nieren. Zum Ende ihres Projekts stellen sie allen Interessierten ihre erarbeiteten Formate und Erfahrungen aus Festivalgesprächen vor und probieren gemeinsam Highlights und Lowlights aus. Die Teilnehmer:innen dieses Workshops können außerdem gemeinsam mit den Jugendlichen selbst ungewöhnliche Gesprächsmethoden entwickeln und ausprobieren, wie Austausch, Diskussionen, Gespräche und Streitformate auf Augenhöhe gelingen.
Build your Puppet! – Puppet building workshop for children
31st Aug 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
During our Celebration Parade, a pair of elephants and their offspring will be exploring Bochum's Westpark on Saturday, 31st August. The colourful spectacle also attracts native animal species curious about the visit from South Africa. These are built and crafted by young and old festival visitors themselves: Under professional guidance, children and families can make their own animal figures and then use them to accompany the musical parade at 2 p.m., 3.30 pm or 5 p.m. In addition to building the figures, the workshop will also provide some practical tips on how to impressively bring the animal figures to life. The free workshop will take place from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wunderland Festival Centre and can be attended at any time.
