Meskerem Mees is an expert in soft sounds with big impact. The sophisticated simplicity and soothing voice of the 26-year-old Belgian won her the Montreux Jazz Talent Award. Together with Brazilian dancer and guitarist Carlos Garbin, she tells stories through the blues. The programme, which the two developed as music for Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's dance creation EXIT ABOVE, is inspired by the tradition of so-called American “disastrous songs”. Carlos Garbin plays country blues guitar while Meskerem Mees sings about how music can help us overcome even the most difficult times, physically, spiritually, and mentally.

At Saturday's Relaxed Performance, Meskerem Mees takes the audience into her internal processand presents new compositions.

On Sunday, 30 Aug, the concert by Meskerem Mees is offered as Relaxed Performance, presented in a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The setting is designed to be especially accessible and low in sensory stimuli. The concert is structured so that as many people as possible can shape their visit according to their individual needs.
This includes the following measures:
Refraining from using bright lights and loud sound effects.
A variety of different seating options.
There is free seating.
It is possible to leave or enter the room at any time, or even change seats.
The auditorium is not completely darkened.
Noise or movement from the audience is not a problem.
At the beginning, the programme is briefly explained.
