Turbinenhalle an der Jahrhunderthalle Bochum
About the Turbinenhalle
Please note: Due to road resurfacing, the A40 will be completely closed between the Wattenscheid-West and Essen-Zentrum junctions in the direction of Duisburg from 18 to 26 August. Diversions will be signposted. Visitors to the Ruhrtriennale 2025 should expect longer journey times and allow extra time for their journey.
A hall was built next to the steam jet house in 1895 to house steam turbines laid horizontally. As in the steam jet house these machines created wind power to drive the blast furnaces, then later electricity was produced in the turbine hall. The building contains two historic turbines – one from the 1930s and the other from 1958. Together with the steam jet house and the gas power plant, now the Jahrhunderthalle, the turbine hall supplied the steel works with power up until the 1960s. As a hall for concerts, conferences and receptions, it now offers space for up to 600 people.
