Do-It-Yourself Saturdays
Workshops for young and old
A festival centre should be a meeting place. A place to participate and exchange ideas. With our Do-It-Yourself Saturdays workshop series, we offer workshops for big and small every Saturday at the Wunderland festival centre. There is room for creative minds in this centre with a variety of activities to get involved in.
art2go (23 August)
Recommended from the age of 6
art2go is an open workshop organised by Atelier Gluecksmagnet that combines creativity, sustainability and community in a playful way. Visitors can get active at three different tables: At the Bedazzling table, old clothes or accessories can be individually embellished with glitter and rhinestones, while colourful coasters are created from ceramic shards and wood at the Mosaic table. The third table is for working with clay - small ceramic pendants can be shaped and personalised here. The workshop offers a low-threshold opportunity to create personalised works of art with simple means - to take home or collect later.
About Atelier Gluecksmagnet: Leon and Ecem are two creative minds who founded the Gluecksmagnet studio in Bochum in 2023. They have been at home in the world of art and creativity since childhood. Atelier Gluecksmagnet produces many types of art, workshops and unique works of art that reflect the versatility of their artistic passion and the symbiosis of co-creation. Our studio stands for a harmonious combination of art, craftsmanship, awareness and sustainability that is functional, aesthetic and interconnected.

Ruhrpott for Europe: Europe in four corners! (6 September)
Recommended from the age of 16
In the Ruhr area, we know: Change has always been part of our history.
But where do we go from here? How can we help build a democratic, solidary and European future in the here and now? And what role do our roots, our experiences and our voice play in this?
In this interactive workshop, we will connect the past, present and future: we will discuss European challenges and opportunities, discover connections with the development of the "Ruhrpott" and look for new ideas for a strong, fair Europe.
Using interactive methods and open discussions, we will create a space to think about Europe, strengthen each other and take courage: For elections, for change, for cohesion.
Hobby Horsing (13 September)
Recommended from the age of 6
In this open workshop, we will focus on the Hobby Horsing trend – an imaginative mix of creative design and sporting exercise. To begin with, participants will design individual hobby horses or ponies: whether colorful, detailed or minimalist – there are no limits to creativity. Then it's off to the Westpark, where a varied parkour invites participants to try out, play and ride.
The workshop takes place at open tables and invites visitors of all ages to join in spontaneously. No previous experience is required – anyone who wants to make things together, exercise and have lots of fun is welcome.
Urban Trash Transformation (20 September)
Recommended from the age of 6
Urban Trash Transformation combines upcycling, sustainability and urban art into a creative movement. What we often carelessly dispose of in everyday life becomes a valuable resource here: plastic, fabric remnants and found objects are turned into new ideas and impressive works of art through collaborative design.
In her work, Dortmund based artist Hülya Özkan makes the discarded visible – and invites urban society to participate. For the Ruhrtriennale, she is developing a participatory work of art in Wunderland that merges art production and social interaction. After a joint walk through the Westpark, during which materials are collected, the creative process begins on site: people build, spray and design – not alone, but side by side with many others.
The result is not only a large-scale mobile under the water tower – raw, bright and lively – but also many small individual objects. Each participant can create their own piece, which is understood as part of the whole: a symbol of how many individual contributions together form a collective work of art.
A visible sign of art that begins outside, grows in the hands of many and returns to the public space as a collective work.
