Lichtburg Essen
About the Lichtburg
The Lichtburg is a landmark of German cinema culture and tradition. For over 95 years, it has impressed visitors with its magnificent architecture, incomparable atmosphere and special film selection. Opened in 1928, the Lichtburg looks back on an eventful history. In 2002, the entire building underwent a complete renovation and has been shining in new splendour since March 2003. Today, the cinema has a 150m² screen, the latest image and sound technology and, with over 1,250 seats, the largest cinema auditorium in Germany. A large theatre stage offers a wide range of possibilities for concerts, musicals, theatre, dance and readings.
The Lichtburg has been awarded the Signet Barrierefrei by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Selbsthilfe Behinderter in Essen e.V. This seal is awarded to buildings, public transport areas and facilities in Essen that are accessible and usable by people with disabilities.
