Wunderland programme out now

This year, the Ruhrtriennale once again shines a spotlight on artists from the region at the Wunderland festival centre. The Ruhr Diamonds and Spoken Acts series, as well as the Down The Rabbit Hole X Cute Community Radio parties, feature musicians, writers, actors and spoken word artists from across the Ruhr region. The line-up includes, among others, writers Jule Weber, Orliane Yomi and Maddy Forst, as well as musicians such as SLABBOY, Favourite Sidewalk Couch and The Destruents. The events are free of charge.

Alongside many international artists, we are delighted to present artists from the independent arts scene of the Ruhr region. The region is home to one of Germany's most diverse arts scenes. Its creative energy is remarkable and represents a real cultural treasure that can be discovered at the Ruhrtriennale.”

At the weekends, the festival centre Wunderland once again offers a programme for everyone. It also serves as a meeting place for students taking part in the International Festival Campus and for the young participants of the Triennale Teens Talk, who will be reporting on the festival as this year’s festival reporters. Visitors of the Westpark and anyone out for a day in the area are warmly invited to take a break at Wunderland, take part in the events, or simply relax in a deckchair and soak up the atmosphere of the festival centre.

To kick off the Ruhr Diamonds series, artists from the Junges Ensemble Ruhr (JER) and the Allerwelt-Ensemble from Duisburg will be performing a concert at the festival centre on Saturday at 6.30 pm. Founded in 2016 in refugee accommodation, the ensemble currently brings together around 25 performers from a wide range of backgrounds, including Syria, Zimbabwe and Congo, as well as Duisburg residents of German, Turkish, Romanian, Bosnian and Brazilian origin. 

The family programme, Kids & Family Workshops begins at 4 pm with a circus skills session focusing on juggling. Following the performance of Rebel Rebel, the first Down The Rabbit Hole X Cute Community Radio party will take place at 10.30 pm under the theme Fade Ballroom Music. Following the Sunday Dancers workshop with Zoe Hollinshead from the Rebel Rebel dance ensemble on Sunday at 11 am, Yohan Holtkamp will present the poem langer regen at the Wunderland stage at 6.30 pm as the festival’s first spoken word act. The performance will be accompanied by sound artist Farah Wind, who will respond musically to the text.
