Jonglage-Fabrik. Deine Pois, deine Tricks! (22 Aug)
Poi juggling helps develop dexterity, concentration and body awareness – and it’s great fun! Balls attached to strings swing artistically around your body. In this workshop, we’ll make our own poi balls and learn how to make them swing, circle and ‘dance’. Using simple materials, we’ll create colourful juggling props that you can use to try out impressive tricks.
Whether you’re juggling for the first time or already have some experience, together we’ll discover exciting movements, new tricks and the joy of creating and trying things out for yourself. Circus and fire instructor Karina Lange (among others) will be on hand to offer tips and tricks.
Squishy-Fieber. Trend-Toys selbst gemacht (29 Aug)
In this creative workshop, we’ll be crafting and modelling! Together, we’ll make our own fidget toys – little objects that feel great and which you can play and experiment with or simply use to relax.
Fidget toys are in almost everyone’s hands these days. They help to slow down racing thoughts and improve concentration for many people. Have you ever given them a go? At the fidget workshop, we’ll make our own fidget toys and have a chilled time together.
Bubble-Painting. Kreative Experimente mit Seifenblasen (5 Sept)
A soap bubble is a work of art in its own right. When it defies gravity and floats through the air, it invites us to marvel at it. In our Bubble Painting workshop, we aim to make its ethereal traces visible. We experiment with the formation of a soap bubble and let images emerge from it. The project is led by visual artist Janna Banning. Her work takes her between museums, the stage and urban spaces. Anyone from Bochum may be familiar with her installation Naherholungsgebiet – Die schönste Insel der Stadt on Romanusplatz. As an expert on soap bubbles, this workshop is sure to be an inspiring experience.
Paint your Partner. Porträts mit Überraschungseffekt! (12 Sept)
In the Paint your Partner workshop which is inspired by a viral internet phenomenon, we get to know our partner through the canvas. How do we portray one another? As we attempt to capture each other on canvas, we experiment with different forms of representation and alienation. It all builds up to the exciting moment when we present our portraits to one another. Let’s paint together and be painted! The workshop is led by Sylvia Steffen and Carsten Jensen, who are now in their third year at the Ruhrtriennale with their DIY programmes.
Mosaikwerkstatt. Stein für Stein zum Kunstwerk (19 Sept)
There is a long tradition of arranging colourful stone fragments to create large and impressive pictures. Piece by piece, a motif emerges, then several motifs, and finally a story. The work requires concentration and dedication – and, of course, a keen eye for a design that first takes shape in the mind and then on the surface. Following the theatrical concert Djumbala!, we will be creating tropical mosaic animals inspired by the wildlife of Curaçao. The workshops will be led by Sylvia Steffen and Carsten Jensen, two specialists from the DIY scene.
