Awareness

The Ruhrtriennale aims to create spaces where all visitors can feel welcome, respected, and safe. Our Code of Conduct serves as the foundation for this. It outlines how we, as a festival, want to treat one another: openly, thoughtfully, and with mutual respect.

Discrimination, harassment, violence, and inappropriate behavior have no place at the Ruhrtriennale. This applies to all areas of the festival: at the venues, on the way there, during conversations, at events, at parties, and in digital spaces.

For us, awareness means: We pay attention to situations in which people experience or witness discrimination, harassment, inappropriate behavior, or other distressing conduct. We listen, take these concerns seriously, and help clarify the next steps.

When can you get in touch?

You can reach out to us if you need support during your visit to the festival—even if you’re unsure whether your concern is “big enough.”

For example, if you:

  • feel uncomfortable or unsafe,
  • have experienced someone crossing a boundary,
  • have experienced discrimination, harassment, or inappropriate behavior,
  • have witnessed something and don’t know how to handle it,
  • need a quieter place,
  • or would like to talk about a distressing situation after an event.

You don’t have to deal with what you’ve experienced or witnessed on your own.

What happens when you get in touch?

When you get in touch with us, we’ll listen to you and take your experience seriously. You don’t have to say any more than you want to. We’ll only ask as many questions as are necessary to understand the situation and be able to support you.

Together, we’ll work out what you need right now and what support is available. This could be, for example, a quieter place, a chat, an escort to a local support contact, or working out together what the right next steps are for you.

We won’t make decisions over your head. We’ll discuss with you what happens next.
