As an old Hanseatic city on the Hellweg, Dortmund was already an important trading centre in the Middle Ages and is now the most populous city in the Ruhr region. The exhibition by Urbane Künste Ruhr responds to the everyday, organically developed situation in the city and its urban and historical reference systems. It unfolds as a loose ribbon with different locations and cooperation partners around Dortmund’s main station, which acts as a hinge between the former working-class district of Nordstadt, with its strong migrant population, and the southern city centre.
