Our values
The Ruhrtriennale, festival of the arts, is in the heart of the metropolis Ruhr. Former industrial halls, coking plants, machine houses and slag heaps of mining and steel industries transform into distinctive protagonists of the festival every year. The programme is located at the intersection of music theatre, theatre, dance, performance, concerts, installations and visual arts. Artistic Director of the Ruhrtriennale 2024 – 2026 is the Belgian theater director Ivo Van Hove. On the homepage of Ruhrtriennale you can find more detailed information on this year’s productions: ruhrtriennale.de
We develop our productions in close cooperation with national and international partner organisations in order to ensure that our programme is available beyond the festival period. After the premieres in the Ruhr region, festival productions are presented again at international festivals or included in the repertoire of our partner theatres. This strategy promotes ecological, financial and artistic sustainability and enables artists of this festival to reach audiences worldwide. Alongside Urbane Künste Ruhr, Chorwerk Ruhr and Tanzlandschaft Ruhr, the Ruhrtriennale is part of Kultur Ruhr GmbH, based in Bochum. Shareholders and public sponsors are the state of North Rhine- Westphalia and the Regional Association Ruhr.
Kultur Ruhr stands for diversity in a liberal and democratic society. It welcomes all people, regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion/belief, sexual identity or other characteristics. Kultur Ruhr therefore calls on all participants and the audience of the Ruhrtriennale to engage in a respectful dialogue based on mutual esteem and appreciation. Kultur Ruhr consistently distances itself from antisemitic, racist and other discriminatory positions. On this basis, Kultur Ruhr as an institution is committed to a culture of an open exchange and sees it as its task to initiate debates, address conflicts and open up spaces for constructive dialogue. In this way, Kultur Ruhr promotes togetherness in diversity and freedom in our society.
