Young people who create art with us need more than just space for their creativity – they need security. Security that their boundaries will be respected, that adults will take responsibility, and that structures will protect young people from abuse of power and boundary violations. As a cultural institution that works with young people in creative processes, we bear a special responsibility. With this child and youth protection policy, we are laying the foundations to consistently fulfil this responsibility.

The policy applies to all areas of Kultur Ruhr GmbH – including the Ruhrtriennale, Chorwerk Ruhr and Urbane Künste Ruhr – and is aimed at all staff, artists, freelance workers and partners who work with children, young people and young adults. It outlines preventive measures, responsibilities and procedures, and provides guidance on how to deal with boundary violations, abuse of power and violence.
