International Festivalcampus

Aspiring scenographers from Norway, Master’s students in Theatre Sciences from Bochum, groups from the Applied Theatre Sciences course in Gießen, students of composition from Birmingham and Czech directors of contemporary object theatre from Prague: altogether the Ruhrtriennale invites 180 students from over 15 international and regional art and drama schools to the Festivalcampus 2018. They will examine festival productions together in a series of workshops and seminars, hold discussions with artists about their work and gain valuable insights behind the scenes of the festival from the Artistic Director and festival team.

The Ruhrtriennale’s campus programme is one of the largest of its kind in the world. It is underpinned by the belief that every aesthetic experience can be made more enduring as a result of lively, critical and engaged discourse that looks beyond the limits of individual disciplines. The Ruhrtriennale’s Festivalcampus creates a space for encounters between established artists and young creatives, between the successful avant-garde and subversive experimentation, between people from diverse cultural contexts who create art using very different working processes. Here practical exploration meets theoretical reflection – on a scale and with an intensity that only an international festival can offer.
