Once again, a Festival Campus is planned for the first Ruhrtriennale festival under Artistic Director Barbara Frey. A total of ten universities from Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland have already confirmed that they will take part. The Campus programme, which has been a regular part of the Ruhrtriennale since 2012, offers international students from a range of artistic and theoretical disciplines insights into the working processes of festival artists through a wide-ranging workshop programme together with the chance to enter into lively discourse – amongst themselves, with the artists and with the Ruhrtriennale team. The programme of seminars and workshops is led by teachers from our partner universities and is devised to engage closely with the festival programme.
The participation of students from a broad range of universities and art schools provides an intensive and critical exchange between very different positions. The particular aesthetic view and experience of discourse made available by the Campus form the basis for artistic and cultural work that is both lively and socially relevant and of a kind that can only arise through exchange, criticism and discussion. In this way the Festival Campus, which is conceived in close collaboration with curators, artists, academics, dramaturgs and teachers, wishes to stimulate teaching at the universities in return.
