From Dostojewskij to Hieronymus Bosch

Fri, 8 - Sat, 9 September 2023

Theatre, installation and music theatre: three different genres at three venues. Whether in the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord or in Bochum's Westpark with its Turbinenhalle, the Jahrhunderthalle and for the break our Pappelwaldkantine, this is the way to enjoy the festival to the full!

It all starts with »Der Garten der Lüste / Le Jardin des délices«: Director and scenographer Philippe Quesne enters into a dialogue with the famous, soon to be 500-year-old painting The Garden of Delights by Hieronymus Bosch, a masterpiece of art history, for his large-scale anniversary play.

On Saturday, explore Bochum around the Jahrhunderthalle festival centre.  In the installation »Jetzt & Jetzt« by the artist Mats Staub, you can visit a unique snapshot that allows you to experience two presences of a human being in dialogue, questioning yourself and our society.

Afterwards, you can take a little time out in the atmospheric Pappelwaldkantine in front of the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum before it's time for Leoš Janáček's »Aus einem Totenhaus«. In the enormous dimensions of the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum, star director and stage designer Dmitri Tcherniakov dissolves the protective wall between artists:inside and audience in a huge walk-in stage installation.
