Ofira Henig

Concept and Direction
Ofira Henig lives and works in Berlin and Tel Aviv. Since 2011 she has been producing freelance theatre and performance works with an ensemble of multilingual actors. Her works are shown internationally at the FIND Festival Berlin and the Festival Theater Spektakel Zürich, among others. Henig directed the Jerusalem Khan Theater from 1995 and the Israel Festival from 2001. Due to political differences during the second Intifada she gave up this position in 2004 and took over as director of the experimental theatre The Lab in Jerusalem. In 2007, the city of Herzliya commissioned Henig to set up a new theatre and ensemble, which she headed for four years and networked internationally. In 2011, Henig was dismissed from her directorship of the Herzliya Ensemble because she was actively involved in the protest against performances by Israeli actors in the occupied territories. Henig has received numerous awards, including the Rosenblum Prize for the Performing Arts 2010 and the Michael Landau Prize 2007. Since 2015 she has also been associate professor at Tel Aviv University and head of the Institute of Directing.
