Andrea Neumann

Composition, Inside Piano, Mixer — N.E.W.

Andrea Neumann, was born in Freiburg/Breisgau in 1968 and studied classical piano at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. She lives in Berlin and works as a musician and composer in the field of new music and experimental music. She is also part of the collective LABOR SONOR which has curated a series of concerts in Berlin since 2000 and festivals since 2015. She has developed and played an instrument of her own since 1996: the inner piano – an aluminium frame spanned with strings, played by means of preparations and amplified with the aid of a mixing desk and various pick-ups. She played a leading role in the Berlin group Echtzeitmusik that operates in between new music, improvisation, noise and sonic arts. Neumann is the co-editor of echtzeitmusik berlin- selbstbestimmung einer szene. She made numerous concert and festival appearances travelling throughout Europe, the USA, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Russia, Australia, Taiwan, Vietnam, China and Japan, and has been commissioned as a composer by Deutschlandfunk, Bayerische Rundfunk, MDR Leipzig, the Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, EMS Stockholm and Ny Musikk Oslo.
