Choir

The State Choir Latvija, founded in 1948, is known for its perfect instrumentation of the vocal culture and the specific sound of Latvian choral tradition. As the largest professional choir of the Baltic States it regularly performs concert programmes of the world’s most prominent conductors and orchestras. Since 1997 Māris Sirmais is the artistic director and chief conductor of the choir which is led by its general manager Māris Ošlejs. State Choir Latvija has performed at the most famous concert halls in Europe and all over the world together with the best orchestras and its outstanding conductors – Mariss Jansons, Andris Nelsons, Zubin Mehta, Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Valery Gergiev, Simone Young, Tõnu Kaljuste, Vladimir Fedoseyev etc. In April 2019, the State Choir Latvija presents Ligetis Requiem at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the conductor is Kent Nagano.
