Steven Sloane

Musical direction
Steven Sloane has been general music director of the Bochumer Symphoniker, one of Germany’s leading orchestras, for many years. He is in great demand as a guest conductor for concerts and operas. Sloane was part of the board of directors of RUHR.2010 – European Capital of Culture and contributed to the project having a far-reaching impact. In 2006, his production of Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten at the Ruhrtriennale was a spectacular success, and was followed by an equally successful performance at the Lincoln Center Festival in New York. His opera successes include the pairing of Bluebeard’s Castle and Dido and Aeneas at the Frankfurt and Los Angeles operas, Aribert Reimann’s Medea at the Komische Oper Berlin and Lohengrin at the Malmö Opera. In 2018, together with Kornél Mundruczó, he staged Hans Werner Henze’s Das Floß der Medusa at the Ruhrtriennale 2018.
