ZEIT für Kultur

With the new podcast series ZEIT für Kultur, theatre people, festival organisers, exhibition curators and other cultural professionals take us behind the scenes of their work. They shine the spotlight on the crucial debates of culture in the field of tension in society as a whole. What moves them? What inspires them? And how does culture contribute to addressing the big issues of our time with creative thought-provoking impulses?

Episode 3 – Culture and Transformation: Who determines change?

Transformation, change, transformation – in view of the great challenges of the 21st century, we encounter these terms again and again. In this context, it is first necessary to recognise and name the social problems, the threatening discord and the political challenges of the present before they can be changed. In this social exchange, above all, there is no getting around the question of participation.

Who is driving change? Which perspectives have been and are being left out, ignored or remain structurally underrepresented? And how is it possible to change our view through precisely these perspectives and through participation? This is what the main conversation in this episode of "ZEIT für Kultur" with Heinrich Horwitz, Lia Rodrigues as well as Mats Staub and Anna Papst is all about.

Episode 2 – Culture and threshholds: What does pain sound like?

The end of human existence represents the last great mystery of earthly existence. No one knows what awaits us after crossing the last great threshold. Art and culture are valuable companions for us humans to imagine the unimaginable and to give expression to the emotions associated with it. Is it struggle? Is it fulfilment? The second episode of the »ZEIT für Kultur« podcast with theatre-maker Elisabeth Stöppler (Ich geh unter lauter Schatten) and other actors at this year's Ruhrtriennale is about how and with which facets transcendence can sound.

Episode 1 – Culture and togetherness: Are there new forms of togetherness?

The first regular episode of the ZEIT für Kultur podcast is part of a trio around this year's Ruhrtriennale. It is about how we humans live together and how this togetherness is changing in the course of social development. Artistic director Barbara Frey talks about her work on Arthur Schnitzler's Das weite Land and how culture influences our coexistence. Alternative concepts are presented by the artist Łukasz Twarkowski with his work Respublika and the head dramaturge for dance, performance and drama, Judith Gerstenberg, with Euphoria by Julian Rosefeldt.
