Susanne Meister

Susanne Meister studied English Literature, Theatre Studies and Political Science in Munich. She went to the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin to carry out some of her research for her Masters on GDR theatre during the reunification, and after graduating she took a job there as a theatre dramaturg. In 1994 she did an exchange with Klaus Pierwoß for the re-opening of the Bremen Theatre. After moving to Vienna, she worked as an editor and director for various big audio book publishers, a writer for South West German Radio and a dramaturg at the Burgtheater, where she worked with the likes of Karin Beier, Stefan Bachmann and Grzegorz Jarzyna, and led the author workshop ‘Workshop Days at the Castle’. Susanne Meister joined Thalia as a permanent dramaturg during the 2009/10 season. She translates and writes stage adaptations for productions including, ‘Die Brüder Karamasow’, ‘Deutschstunde’ and ‘Der Schimmelreiter’ and collaborates with directors including Luk Perceval, Johan Simons, Jette Steckel and Stefan Pucher.
