Caio Monteiro

Caio Monteiro, the recipient of the prestigious SiAA grant from 2010-2013, studied at the State University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart and has a master’s degree from the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Mannheim where he studied with Prof. Rudolf Piernay. Since beginning his career in Europe in 2013, Brasilian baritone Caio Monteiro has been a member of the ensemble of Theater Bielefeld where he has build up an extensive repertoire, appearing in roles in past seasons such as Papageno, Marco (Gianni Schicchi), Germano (La scala di seta), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Horacio (Hamlet), Commissario (M. Butterfly), Guglielmo (Cosi fan tutte), Julius (Rape of Lucrecia) to name a few.

For the 2016/17 season, Caio has many role debuts including Belcore in Donizetti's "L'elisir d'amore", Music Professor in Marc-André Dalbavie's "Charlotte Salomon", Kilian in Weber's "Die Freischutz", and Mercutio in Monteverdi's "L'incoronazione di Poppea" all at Theater Bielefeld. Caio will also make his debut in summer 2017 at the Ruhr Triennale as Ein Arzt/Schäfer in Debussy's "Pelléas et Mélisande". In the 2017/2018 season, he continues as an ensemble member of Theater Bielefeld, where he will sing Papageno in W.A. Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte", Albert in Massenet's "Werther", and Zef in Krüs' "Anne und Zef" and appear in Reznicek's "Benzin".
