Young Fathers – the successful Scottish trio – are back! The genre-defying music of this three piece band can’t be categorized easily as they take an experimental approach shifting between hip hop, punk, dub, gospel and pop. Their music is distinctive as it also contains elements of reggae, indie pop and electronica, not least through the polyglot influences that its members Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole and „G“ Hastings bring with them, evoking their Scottish but also Nigerian and Liberian heritage. Their debut album Dead was a massive success, winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize for Best Album of the Year in 2014. This was promptly followed a year later by their second album White Men Are Black Men Too, with which the band toured all over the world. More recently the internationally successful trio recently contributed several songs to the soundtrack for Danny Boyle’s 2017 cult film remake T2 Trainspotting. Now they’re back with their new album Cocoa Sugar. After its release on 9th March 2018 they are going on an international tour and they will also stop by at Turbinenhalle in Bochum.
