A young couple wishes to have their baby at home. No birth in the theatre has ever been so intimate, detailed and authentic: the nervousness, the fear, the pain, the relief – and then, in the end, a turning point.
In the second part of the play we witness a family gathering with a mother growing older and two daughters with very different husbands.
As the meeting continues, the child becomes the catalyst for discussions about conflicts in Polish society between religious/nationalist political views and a non-conformist way of life, between neoliberal ambitions and severe financial hardship.
Following their great artistic success in 2019 with Evolution, Kornél Mundruczó and Kata Wéber return to the Ruhrtriennale with an absorbing family drama that they developed for TR Warszawa in collaboration with seven remarkable actors. This production was recently selected as the best Polish production of the season 2019 with the Grand Prix of the Festival Boska Komedia.
